What is Beard Oil?
Before we begin, let’s talk about what beard oil is and why you should use it. Beard Oil is a leave-in conditioner for your beard that consists of a blend of carrier oils and essential oils.
Carrier oils comprise the majority of the solution and literally act to “carry” the oil from the tip of the whisker to the end of the hair follicle. The carrier oils are the oils with the conditioning benefits for your skin and beard.
Essential oils are used for their health benefits in addition to their fragrance, and comprise a very small amount of the total solution.
This blend of oil combines to create a powerful solution that softens whiskers, hydrates the beard to eliminate beard itch, and reduces split ends. It also has antimicrobial benefits.
Regular application of beard oil will soften your beard so when you’re kissing your sweetheart(s) you won’t leave their face(s) rawer than a winter wind in Wisconsin.
Why Should I Use Beard Oil?
When people first look at you, whether it be your boss, clients, significant other, children, parents, or dog, they naturally first look at your face. Half of your manly profile is covered by a beard.
With all those eyes checking out your beard, and not to mention the number of times you catch yourself running your fingers through your beard, one simply cannot deny the importance of having a soft, healthy, and hydrated beard.
Let’s face it, you’ve just got to deep condition that prime California real estate baby.
Use Beard Oil Every Day
Whenever you wash your face, the soap strips away natural oils that are produced to protect your skin. Beard oil is applied after a wash to replenish the lost oils. It helps protect your beard and the skin underneath.
Follow these steps to use beard oil:
1. Dampen your beard
Make sure your beard is damp, either after a shower or after washing your face. It is important to soften your beard before application so the oil absorbs into the skin better.
2. Drop beard oil into palm
Drop a few drops of beard oil into your palm. A good rule of thumb is one drop for every week of growth. Usually, 3-5 drops are enough. Be careful not to use too much. Beard oil can be very lubricating and it is easy to overdo it.
3. Massage beard oil into beard
Rub the oil between your palms and massage into beard. If you used the right amount of oil you should have very little oil residue remaining on your hands. Massage any excess oil remaining on your hands into your hair or skin. Beard oil is very nourishing for the skin.
Bonus Step – Use your beard comb
If your beard is long enough to warrant using a beard comb you can use one to help distribute the oil through your beard. The teeth of the beard comb will help detangle your beard and apply beard oil at the same time.
To get the beard oil best distributed, first comb up against the grain, flaring out all your hair. Then go back over the beard in the opposite direction, bring the hair back down into place. Doing this will help coat the entire beard with oil. It also helps stimulate the hair follicles which aids in healthy growth and prevention of ingrown hair.
